      yǒu dà wěi。

慧智出
有大偽。

when shrewdness and sophistry arise,
there is great hypocrisy.

wenn Scharfsinn und Spitzfindigkeit aufkommen,
gibt es große Heuchelei.

sind Scharfsinn und Spitzfindigkeit erst frei,
dann gibt es große Heuchelei.

03. liù qīn
      bù hé
      yǒu xiào* cí;

六親
不和
有孝慈;

When the six blood relatives
are not at one [with each other],
there are filiality and parental authority;

Sind die sechs Blutsverwandten
nicht einig,
gibt es Kindesgehorsam und Elternautorität;

Wo sich Verwandtschaft
                        nicht versteht,
da gibt es Gehorsam und Autorität:

04. guó jiā
      hūn luàn*
      yǒu zhōng chén。

國家
昏亂
有忠臣。

when realm and people
are in confusion and chaos,
there are loyal patriots.

sind Land und Leute
in Verwirrung und Chaos,
gibt es gesetzestreue Patrioten.

sind Land und Leute
                      verwirrt und chaotisch,
werden loyal sie und patriotisch.
